[Beauty Product Showdown] Body Lotion: Crabtree & Evelyn Pomegranate VS Victoria's Secret Pure Seduction

In the first Beauty Product Showdown, I will be comparing two body lotions - Victoria's Secret Pure Seduction VS Crabtree & Evelyn Pomegranate, Argan & Grapeseed, and how they fare against each other.

After I got married several months ago, I started sleeping in an air-conditioned room every night at my new home. I guess my skin wasn't used to the sudden drying effect of air-conditioning as I  noticed my skin getting drier and drier with each passing day. I needed to do something to save my skin! So I went out there and bought not one but TWO body lotions because I liked both their scents in the shops. And, I was Kiasu (a Singlish term for not wanting to lose out on an opportunity).

Going forward I will refer to the Victoria's Secret Pure Seduction Hydrating Body Lotion as VS-PS and the Crabtree & Evelyn Pomegranate, Argan & Grapeseed Skin Quenching Body Lotion as CE-PR.

The Showdown

Scent :  Let's face it, most of us purchase lotions/body wash from Victoria Secret or Crabtree & Evelyn because their products smell amazing.

I picked VS-PS at the store as it smells sweet with an exotic blend of flavours, consisting of red plum and freesia. However, as I continued to use it for the next few days, I found the sweet scent to be a little overbearing for me at times. It isn't really suitable for an enclosed office as your colleagues will be able to smell you several feet away, although the men won't complain. The scent lasts for a long time. Sure, there were compliments from both my female and male colleagues, and even my husband who says the scent is yummy. But I personally prefer a lighter fragrance that is not overpoweringly sweet for everyday use.

CE-PR smells both sweet and fruity, a really good combination as most Crabtree products tend to lean towards floral or herbal scents but this has changed in recent years with additions such as Pear and Pink Magnolia and Tarocco Orange. I really love the scent - it makes me smell sweet and fresh all at the same time, and I can use this anywhere. The only gripe is that the scent doesn't last as long as VS-PS but this can be easily solved by layering with a similar fragrance in the Pomegranate range to make it last longer.

Consistency: Both lotions spread easily and absorb readily into the skin. Although CE-PR has a slightly lighter texture, both do not leave any stickiness or residue.

VS-PS is light pink while CE-PR is whitish

Both formulas are quite lightweight and spread easily (VS-PS on left, CE-PR on right)

I used each lotion on different nights before going to bed. In the morning, I wake up to smoother skin for both lotions, with CE-PR giving me considerably softer and more touchable skin. It contains ginger extract to help protect your skin while the blend of pomegranate, argan, sesame, grapeseed and almond oils nourishes and conditions.  Formulated without mineral oil and parabens, CE-PR definitely does a very good job as a body moisturiser.

Although VS-PS does hydrate my skin with aloe, oat, grapeseed extracts, antioxideant Vitamins E and C, I don't think the hydration is sufficient for areas prone to dryness like elbows.

Packaging:

Both lotions contain 250ml of product. VS-PS comes with a golden press-open cap and an almost opaque pink plastic bottle, which will definitely appeal to girly girls. CE-PR comes with a convenient pump dispenser with a removable lock. If you are bringing the bottle in your bag, the lock is important so that the product does not accidentally spill over and make a mess to all the other items in your bag. As you can see from the picture, CE-PR is good for 24 months while VS-PS is good for 12 months once opened.

Who is the Winner? I will choose Crabtree & Evelyn's Promegranate for its scent and superior moisturising quality. That being said, I know some people really love the Victoria Secret Pure Seduction. I guess, scents are subjective? Let me know what you think by leaving a comment below.

[Review] Guerlain Meteorite Pearls: Magic in a Pot

Guerlain Meteorite Pearls, you really lived up to the hype!

I was actually looking for a loose powder to set my makeup when I stumbled upon Guerlain Meteorite Pearls at the department store. For a long time now, the colourful little balls (or Pearls as I later learnt) had always intrigued me because of their secret Stardust technology. Furthermore, seeing those pretty little pots perched against dainty backdrops on other bloggers' instagram accounts further piqued my curiosity but I was apprehensive because of the price. However, I finally gave in when I walked past the beauty counter and I'm telling you, those pearls were calling out to me!

Guerlain has other products under their Meteorites range as well, but I specifically wanted to try the Pearls.

For my skin tone (fair), I purchased the Guerlain Meteorite Pearlsin 02 Clair at SGD84 (USD60) which contained about 25g or 88oz of product. Apparently, the reason for the different coloured pearls are to correct any imperfections: green to counter redness, white and champagne to reflect light while gently illuminating it. Like the other Meteorite shades, 02 Clair also contained the 3 base colours: yellow for redness, pink for freshness and mauve to catch the light.

The beautiful packaging is definitely a pretty item to have on your vanity table. It also has a heavenly floral scent which isn't overpowering.

As mentioned earlier, I wanted a loose powder to set my makeup and used the Guerlain Meteorite Pearls as a loose powder. I have rather oily skin and quickly came to the conclusion that this was NOT a setting loose powder for me as I became oily soon, although during initial application my husband commented my complexion glowed.

Not one to give up so soon, on the 2nd attempt, I first set my makeup lightly with Lancome Teint Miracle loose powder. Then I swirled a large fluffy brush 2-3 times which was enough to pick up a sufficient amount of the Meteorite product for my face. Finally, I dusted the Guerlain Meteorite Pearlsall over my face as a finishing powder. And boy, with the blend of colours from the matte and shimmering pearls, the Pearls gave me such a beautiful glow which I have never seen on myself before. My face looked healthier, smoother and more radiant. My husband again commented my complexion looked lovelier. I also didn't have to worry about the oilies as I had already set my makeup and the radiance the Pearls provided was subtle, giving me an overall healthy look. Just like how the Pearls aren't a setting powder, it is also not a highlighter.

Close up of the Meteorite Pearls. Some are matte while others are shimmery.. Beautiful!

My final thoughts on Guerlain Meteorite Pearls: pricey but worth every cent. This is a must-have for big occasions. It can also last for a long time: the SA told me she has been using her Pearls everyday for 2 - 3 years now and still isn't halfway through her pot. Quick tip, you can smash 1 or 2 pearls to bring along for your travels to achieve a instant-holiday glow, instead of waiting for that post-holiday glow! I will definitely repurchase in a heartbeat.

[Review] SK-II Cellumination Deep Surge Ex

Who doesn't want to have a beautiful soft glow radiating from your skin? Well, the SK-II Cellumination Deep Surge Ex can lead you one step closer to achieving your dream skin. The two key ingredients in this moisturiser are the famous Pitera and an advanced whitening complex Aura Bright Cocktail EX, which from the SK-II website claims to provide intense hydration, "evens out your skin and boosts its luminosity. With every use, dullness and appearance of spots are minimized to reveal your skin’s natural translucent glow." Does this moisturiser live up to its claims?

SK-II Cellumination Deep Surge EX
I have been using the SK-II Cellumination Deep Surge Ex for 9 months now as a night moisturiser before I go to bed and wake up the next morning to more translucent skin. The gel-like cream comes in a jar, which I use a spatula to scoop the required amount so as not to contaminate the rest of the moisturiser. My oily skin loves how lightweight it is as it spreads really easily and is quickly absorbed into my skin, thus only a small amount is needed. I know of someone who uses this as a sleeping mask due to the texture, she will apply a thick layer of the moisturiser before going to bed.. what an expensive sleeping mask!
Lightweight gel consistency
Although the SK-II Cellumination Deep Surge Ex does plump up my skin a little, it doesn't provide as much hydration as I would like, but that has always a struggle for me as my skin is oily yet dehydrated. But no worries on that as I usually layer the moisturiser above a hydrating serum. I also must say it does help in lightening acne scars relatively quickly and doesn't aggravate my sensitive skin. Until I find another moisturiser better than this, I will be sticking to this as it has faired better than all other night moisturisers I have tried.

The SK-II Cellumination Deep Surge Ex is currently retailing at S$199 at all major department stores, or you can purchase it on cheaper from Amazon or StrawberryNET here or here.
